Passage: Deuteronomy 30:6
We experienced an inspiring Sunday at Pender!
On the Second Sunday after Epiphany, January 14, 2024, we were excited to have a thought-provoking sermon by Pastor Bruce Johnson. His message, titled "To Be A Methodist: A Vision of Holiness," was a captivating exploration of faith and spirituality. Pastor Johnson wove together a rich tapestry of scriptures, including Deuteronomy 30:6 and Deuteronomy 30:8, 1 Peter 1:13-16, and Matthew 22:34-40, painting a vivid picture of what it means to live a life of holiness in the Methodist tradition.
Deuteronomy 30:6 and Deuteronomy 30:8 laid the foundation with its profound insights on covenant and commitment. 1 Peter 1:13-16 elevated our understanding of holiness, challenging us to be 'holy in all our conduct'. Matthew 22:34-40 brought it all together, emphasizing the greatest commandments of love that are central to our Christian journey.
This sermon wasn't just about understanding Methodist beliefs; it was an invitation to explore how these timeless scriptures can influence our daily lives, guiding us towards a deeper, more fulfilling spiritual path.
The hymns were "Maker, in Whom We Live"; “O for a Heart to Praise My God”; “A Charge to Keep I Have”; “O Jesus, I Have Promised”; “Alleluia, Alleluia” and “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”.
The Sanctuary Choir under the direction of Patrick King sang “Give Thanks/I Sing Praises to Your Name”.
We joined together for this enlightening experience and discovered how we can embody a vision of holiness in our own lives. It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen our faith and connect with our amazing Pender community!
