Passage: Acts 26:1-5

Looking back to Sunday, January 28, we reflected on a meaningful day of worship led by Pastor Bruce at both services. This Sunday marked a continuation of his insightful five-week sermon series on Methodist Essentials. Pastor Bruce skillfully delved into the rich tapestry of our Wesleyan/Methodist heritage, bringing to light the unique aspects of our faith and practice. His teachings explored how these enduring principles can empower us to be faithful disciples and joyous witnesses of Christ's love and teachings in our modern world. This series promised to be an enlightening journey, enriching our spiritual lives and deepening our understanding of our cherished Methodist traditions.

The First Lesson was Acts 26:1-5, 9-20, and the Gospel Lesson was Matthew 9:35-38.

Our worship at both services on Sunday, January 28, included a recognition of our past church leaders, and the dedication of leaders for the coming year(s). Those who have or are serving in church leadership were hopefully able to join us as we expressed our appreciation and prayed for them. We also had printed copies of our Lay Leadership list for 2024 available for the entire congregation.

At the start of the service, Pender's Common Ground Band took the stage, their instruments gleaming, ready to weave a musical tapestry that would captivate the audience. The first chords of "Lord, You're Mighty" by Youthful Praise filled the air, setting a powerful and uplifting tone. The band's harmony and energy brought a fresh vibrancy to the song, making it feel like a call to celebration.

As the last note of the opening song faded, the ambiance softened, paving the way for "For Your Glory" by Tasha Cobbs Leonard. The band's rendition was heartfelt, each note played with a reverence that echoed through the hall, inviting everyone to reflect on the song's profound message of devotion and the pursuit of divine presence.

The mood shifted once more as the opening bars of "Our God Is an Awesome God" by Rich Mullins resonated through Pender’s sanctuary. The band's performance of this classic was both majestic and awe-inspiring, reminding everyone of the omnipotence and grandeur of the divine. The familiar chorus united the audience, their voices joining in a powerful chorus that seemed to ascend to the heavens.

In a full-circle moment, the band concluded their set with a reprise of "Lord, You're Mighty," this time infusing it with all the energy and passion they had gathered throughout their performance. This final rendition was not just a song, but a declaration, a collective acknowledgment of faith and strength, leaving the audience moved and uplifted.

The band had transformed the worship service into a spiritual journey, blending melodies and messages to create an unforgettable morning of music and worship.
