Children's Ministry
Pender United Methodist Church offers exciting ways to
experience faith at your child's level. In addition to our Sunday School at 9:30
A.M. on Sundays for ages three and up, there are both vocal and hand bell
choirs. There are several groups in each of these areas at the elementary level
that sing and ring joyfully for the Lord! Our worship service includes a
children's time in which the sermon, for a few moments, is brought to the
child's level through stories and visuals.
Contact our church office at (703) 278-8023 for more information on upcoming
activities for children! Read on for other awesome activities!
Pender Kids Club
All children ages 3 through 6th grade are considered part of our PKC
(Pender Kids Club). Benefits include a monthly newsletter, special events and
rallies which occur during the year. See listing of events below! |

JLU
Older elementary children 4th through 6th
grade are also invited to become part of our JLU (Jesus Loves You)
Club. We explore projects that make us think about our faith and God
in very innovative ways. We meet the second Sunday of each month at
5:30 until 7:30 P.M. in the Cornerstone room.
Special Events
During the year all Pender Kids have an
opportunity to take part in many experiences of faith. Some special times
and events planned for children include: Palm Sunday Processional, Easter Egg Hunt
Party (March 22 10am), Spring Missions Conference, Promotion Sunday,
Vacation Bible School (July 14-18), Kick-Off Sunday, Harvest Party,
Chrismon Crafts Family Dinner and our Children's Christmas Program
(rehearsal, Nov 30, performance Dec 1). Our teens at Pender often
participate in some of the above events as our Youth Program sponsors
both the Easter Egg Hunt and Harvest Party. Rallies are also held
several times a year during the Sunday School time during which we let
rafters ring with songs and activities.
Vacation Bible School
Our two biggest events for children
during the year are Vacation Bible School and our Children's
Christmas Program. Our VBS will be July 14-18 in 2008. Classes for
three years to sixth grade are from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon and include
rally time, daily Bible lessons, snacks, music, crafts and recreation.
There are no fees, only a small donation for snacks is suggested. A
nursery is provided for volunteers. What a great way for your child to
have fun, be creative and learn about the Lord!
Children's Christmas Program
All Pender Kids and their friends are invited
to participate in this fun event! There is only one night of
rehearsal and somehow, each year, through the grace of God, everything
pulls together beautifully - rehearsal this year is Friday, Nov 30
at 6pm. The pageant is the next day, Dec 1 at
5:30 pm followed by a potluck dinner, Chrismon Crafts -- a time for your family
to learn about and create a beautiful Chrismon to hang on our
tree in the Fellowship Hall, an advent box craft and
concludes with a Birthday Cake for Jesus. Plan to join us for this fun
filled evening with family and friends! |

Youth Ministry
Purpose Statement: To win, build and equip teenagers to a personal relationship with Christ.
Jesus came to them and said:
"I have been given all authority in heaven and earth! Go to the
people of all the nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the
name of the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do
everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even to the end of
the world."

Pender's youth ministry gives Junior and Senior high school
students an opportunity to build relationships with other Christian teens who
are struggling with the same issues, and help them grow in their relationship
with Christ.
This takes place with singing, games, fun, and hot topics
relevant to teens. Meetings are held at Pender, in the youth room upstairs, on
Sunday Nights between 6:45 and 8:30pm, plus small groups meet on Wednesday
evenings at 6:00pm. Other special activities include short-term mission trips,
a New Year's Eve "blowout," and opportunities for service at Pender.

Other Programs and Services
Nursery Services
At Pender, we provide infants and toddlers (newborns through
age 4) with a safe and caring Christian environment. Our nursery staff of paid
workers and volunteers are available during Sunday worship services, Sunday
School, and many other church sponsored activities.
The staff provides light snacks for the children. We use a silent pager system
to maintain contact with parents. Nursing mothers are always welcome in the
nursery.

information contact the Pender Church Office at (703)

non-profit community child care support service organized to provide
an accepting and affectionate atmosphere suited to the development
of each child and to stimulate their growth socially, mentally,
physically and spiritually. It also provides "child-free" time for
parents each week.
The program is held Monday through Friday from 9:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. September
through May. For children to participate they need to be at least 12 months old
by September 1st and not older than 3 1/2.
The Director of the program is Tina Harkness: (703) 352-6204.
Pender Hill Preschool
Pender Hill Preschool meets throughout the week with A.M. and
P.M. sessions. Parents help as aides in the classroom. Classes meet Monday and
Friday as well as Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 3 and 4 year old children.
Pre-kindegarden classes also meet Monday - Friday for children five years old or
turning five by April of the current school year. We offer varied experiences to
help children grow and develop with the feeling of success. Experiences include
