Lent and Easter 2013

Lent is a time to prepare for Easter. United Methodists begin Lent on Ash Wednesday (this year on February 13) and continue celebrating Lent until Easter (March 31). We view Lent as a way to slow down and focus on God, so many Methodists will give up foods or activities during this time. The purpose of giving something up is to find more time to focus on God.

Too Busy Not to Pray

There is never enough time to do what we want to do. Never enough time to do what we need to do. Never enough time to pray. However, nothing seems to change our busy schedules. Maybe what we neglect is the answer to our busyness. Prayer, talking to God, seems difficult for many and impossible for others. Some enjoy the time when God is the center of their attention. During these days of Lent, let’s talk about praying in a way that means something, that brings us closer to God and that does something in our lives.

Soaring In Life

Promises, promises, promises. There's a lot of hype in the world
about getting that good life, isn't there? But this is not hype. God
wants your entire being to be revolutionized, inside and out, for a
life of pure wholeness. Come, listen to Jesus -- for a new beginning.

September 27 – Life Without Limits – Romans 12:1-2, John 8:32

Did you feel that? Time to notice what you're feeling, hearing and
seeing. Tune in and focus upon your soul to live without limits - just
like Jesus.

October 4 – Turned Inside Out –

We were not meant to be carbon copies of each other but a reflection of
God's image in us. This is to be truly human. "Religion" works from the
outside - in, while "Jesus" works from the inside - out. Life soars
when it is lived from the inside out.

October 11 – Rising Above –

There is a path to wholeness. In our self-help society, we've lost the
path. Wholeness is experienced through the sacrifice of love. It's
counter-intuitive to sacrifice when you "need" or "hurt." Yet,
sacrificial love leads to soaring with the refreshing freedom of
wholeness.

October 18 – The Weight of Small Things –

"The great things that we long for and search for are found among the
small things we may ignore or even discard." -- Erwin McManus

God's potential is released in very small acts. Don't sweat the small stuff! Welcome it.

October 25 – The Wisdom to Soar –

It's time to "connect the dots." Seeking wisdom in living is a
God-honoring activity. "I'm not hurting anyone other than myself!" Ever
heard that foolish myth before? "If I only knew then what I know now?"
Standing in the right place at the right time makes all the difference
to soaring in life - but you can do it now.

November 1 – Life Together! –

In the end, we're "all in it together." The saints have led the way
before us. They prod us on to higher things. Now, it's out turn to walk
out as saints -- together.
