Beth Dougherty I wasn’t sure of what I was looking for when I tagged along with a friend to Pender, more than five years ago. I knew I was looking for something, and I knew the church was near my home. What is it the real estate people say? Location, location, location! |

What I found at Pender was a warm and caring Christian
family –
ready to accept me as I was, right from the beginning. My new family answered
every question with patience. The pastors challenged me each week to grow in my
faith. Each week I felt energized. And every moment, I felt loved. Now I can gladly say I know what it was that I felt back then – it was (and is) a genuine love of God and of other Christians, and joy at expressing that love. I accepted Jesus, and became a Christian at Pender. What kept me coming back while that change took place? The warm smiles and hugs of the people attending, the chance to participate in heartfelt worship of our God, and the opportunity to grow, learn and serve with others who feel the same. Back then, God pursued me. He put the church close to me (or did He put me close to the church?) He stimulated my curiosity. He guided me to Pender and to a loving, patient family where I was allowed to explore my growing faith at my own pace. They answered my questions, led the way, and loved me all through my journey toward the cross. That journey, by the way, continues today. Pender is more than a building. For me it is a vibrant, loving community where I can share, grow and serve. It is my Christian family. |
